This scholarship competition entry explores differences between urban and regional sensibilities.

The scheme is laid out in rows like a crop, the Mechanics Institute skews to orientate toward the sun. The scheme celebrates the civic in a regional centre. The form emulates the flickering you experience in your peripheral vision when you drive by a crop.

The plan acentuated the tension between the 45degree to north city grid and planning to true north. A series of deliberately concealed spaces were set between the landscape frontage and building frontage.
